I cannot believe that today is the last day of February. Where has this semester gone? It seems like just yesterday I was talking about the beginning of the semester, classes I was taking and Popey’s 80th birthday bash. I guess time flies when you’re having fun!
This past weekend my mom and stepdad came in town for the day just to change the registration sticker on my Rav 4. I’m not a good person to hand a sharp object to at all. When I was about 11, I was using a razor blade to open a Bopit game for my brother and I to play. The razor blade slipped and got the side of my thumb pretty bad. I was bleeding everywhere and eventually passed out at the sight of my own blood. (I can see other people’s blood, just not mine) My little brother called my mom and she thought nothing of it because she’s one of those mothers that never, ever panics. When she saw the extent of my cut and my sheet-white face, we went to the emergency room for stitches. Needless to say, I’m not allowed to use sharp objects and their 3 hour sticker changing trip was worth the money saved for an emergency room trip :)
My parents actually spent the day with me. It was so nice to be out of my dorm room on a Saturday actually enjoying the day before work. After they picked me up, we traveled the 14 miles down the road to Gruene, Texas (pronounced like green) to eat at the Gristmill. It was delicious! I haven’t eaten there since I was 12 and really don’t remember much about eating there except that it was summer, and we ate outside. It was so nice not to eat cafeteria food, let me tell you!
The top two are the different views outside our table balcony and the bottom is my mom, me and my stepdad at lunch. My little brother had to work that afternoon, so he stayed in Houston.
They left shortly after 3pm because I had to be at work by 5 and my usual, short route to work was closed. I found a detour that took me 30 minutes longer to get there, but at least I got there, right?!
The next morning I went to Grammy and Popey’s to spend the day with them. I had two weeks worth of laundry to do (or actually have done because Grammy still does my laundry…shhh!!) Little did I know, I was in for a treat! They surprised me by taking me out to a local steak restaurant because I made a comment a few weeks earlier about not having had a steak since I’ve been at college. When I got there, Grammy told me to load Luc, Landry and Popey in the car. (We were watching Luc and Landry for the day because Uncle Mark and Aunt Liz were playing golf) I drove all of us to the restaurant a few miles up the road and enjoyed every minute of it. It was the same restaurant we celebrated Popey’s 70th birthday at 10 years earlier. Luc and Landry weren’t married into our family yet and Uncle Mark was still married to Anthony and Alyssa’s mom, Aunt Michele.
When we got home from the restaurant, Grammy and I sorted my laundry and got it started. I had a bunch of washing to do! She finished up my laundry for me and Popey, Landry and I proceeded to go out to the garden and plant onions. The first four pictures are of Landry and pregarden. The last few pictures are of Popey and I planting (compliments of Landry).
The town where I ate lunch with my mom and stepdad is shown in one of my favorite commercials played over the Superbowl this year. It’s sort of a silly commercial from a grocery store here in Texas but it does a great job of showcasing our state!
Happy Monday :)

Looks like such a fun time! I love the pictures of y'all planting...so cute!! I used to take my laundry home to my mom during college. Haha. I eventually started doing it when I stopped going home so much.
That's so awesome that your parents came just to change your stickers! And I love that your Grammy still does your laundry for you. It sounds like you were blessed with quite the wonderful family! :)
And I'm with you and your disbelief that February is over already. This whole school year has been flying by like crazy!
I think it is awesome how close your family is to you. The year and a half that I was in school, my family was 4 hours away. I didn't get to see them very often, especially last semester because I didn't have a car!! I love all of the pictures!!!
sounds like you had a lovely weekend! Your grandparents sound so adorable!
How nice your visit was. I was glad my family was about 2.5 hours away. Close enough to meet in the middle, but never any surprises.
